Fall Vegetable Gardening

Fall is upon us – the official first day of Fall was September 22. With summer behind us, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the milder weather and start planning your fall vegetable garden. Fall vegetables are those that can withstand cooler weather and less sunlight – cruciferous and root vegetables do particularly well. Here is a list of some vegetables that thrive in the Fall:

  • Carrots
  • Radishes
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Chard
  • Peas
  • Green onions
  • Potatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Endive
  • Brussels sprouts

You can either plant from seed or if you can find transplants, they will save you about six weeks of growing time. Make sure you place your garden in a spot that receives plenty of sunlight so your vegetables can thrive. Harvesting of most Fall vegetables will begin mid-November; some like radishes and lettuce will be earlier and others like Brussels sprouts will be later. Pick up a GroGreen Raised Garden Box at J&W Lumber to get you started and happy gardening!
